Lex Alexander: "We now have incontrovertible evidence that the man running the News & Record is a liar, a coward, a menace to the human resources he is paid to steward and a man who believes his readers are idiots."
His call to fire Robin Saul leads us to the question of Landmark's role in the long decline of the News & Record.
What does ownership make of the debacle on Market Street? Saul may be our problem, but he is their man. They -- faceless and unaccountable to local readers -- decided eight years ago that the publisher of a small-time paper could run a good-sized regional daily.
And he has, right into the ground.
Snap.

As an alum of both the Carroll County Times and the N&R, I take some umbrage at the CCT being described as "small time." A lot of excellent journalists have passed through there and the paper covers its community far, far better than most. (For example: http://bit.ly/JRnNdX)
The CCT grew considerably under Saul's watch, which is probably part of why Landmark gave him a shot in Greensboro. That's not to excuse his mistakes once he got here. But it's not like he was running a weekly shopper, either.

How about, "a fine small paper?"

I can live with that.
