Dr. Mary Johnson

After spending the afternoon getting nothing-but-lame excuses out of a local "non-profit" hospital CEO (far, far away from Wall Street) for not releasing public information (i.e. lists of Boards of Directors and Corporate membership) . . . the SAME CEO who lied repeatedly under Oath (during the Clinton administration) about the "confidentiality" of information that was IN NO WAY confidential . . . I can assure you, Mr. Cone, that my anger is NOT "misdirected" - nor is it "lunacy".

Brandon Burgess

That's right. The Tea Party: Change we can REALLY believe in. This time, for REAL real.

Grant

"I was struck by the number of people who had come to the point where they were literally in fear of whether or not the United States of America would continue to be a free country."

No way, man. David "Fux0red With the Wrong Guy" Petraeus will soon cross the Potomac to save the Republic.

Ed Cone

I was on an email thread with some friends around the time of the last presidential election, and I got an email intended only for their close circle, in which the guy said he was honestly concerned we were headed toward fascism or communism if Obama was elected. It startling to see that level of fear.

Ed: That's nothing. I get them everyday, hourly almost, from local Republicans who are in their 50s and 60s and 70s. It's mostly all they talk about.

Ok, so this one just came in. This man is from Rockingham County. He is a member of VFW and in his early 70s.

Subject: FW: A friend of Obama has something to say

Finally, someone that knew him from his college
days.

This is, no doubt, a most
disturbing and believable outline of Obama's plans and ultimate
objectives--leaping socialism. From his college classmate.

More significant evidence to throw out the
incumbents in November 2010! In case you haven't figured out what's
happening, here's a wrap-up of the program.

Overwhelm The System
Wayne Allyn Root
[]

Barrack Obama is no fool. He is not incompetent. To the
contrary, he is brilliant. He knows exactly what he's doing. He is purposely
overwhelming the U.S. economy to create systemic failure, economic crisis
and social chaos -- thereby destroying capitalism and our country from
within.
Barack Obama is my college classmate ( Columbia University ,
class of '83). As Glenn Beck correctly predicted from day one, Obama is
following the plan of Cloward and Piven, two professors at Columbia
University . They outlined a plan to socialize America by overwhelming the
system with government spending and entitlement demands. Add up the clues
below. Taken individually they're alarming. Taken as a whole, it is a
brilliant, Machiavellian game plan to turn the United States into a
socialist/Marxist state with a permanent majority that desperately needs
government for survival ... and can be counted on to always vote for bigger
government. Why not? They have no responsibility to pay for it.
-- Universal health care. The health care bill had very
little to do with health care. It had everything to do with unionizing
millions of hospital and health care workers, as well as adding 15,000 to
20,000 new IRS agents (who will join government employee unions).Obama
doesn't care that giving free health care to 30 million Americans will add
trillions to the national debt. What he does care about is that it cements
the dependence of those 30 million voters to Democrats and big government.
Who but a socialist revolutionary would pass this reckless spending bill in
the middle of a depression?
-- Cap and trade Like health care legislation having nothing
to do with health care, cap and trade has nothing to do with global warming.
It has everything to do with redistribution of income, government control of
the economy and a criminal payoff to Obama's biggest contributors. Those
powerful and wealthy unions and contributors (like GE, which owns NBC, MSNBC
and CNBC) can then be counted on to support everything Obama wants. They
will kickback hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to Obama and
the Democratic Party to keep them in power. The bonus is that all the new
taxes on Americans with bigger cars, bigger homes and businesses helps Obama
"spread the wealth around."
-- Make Puerto Rico a state. Why? Who's asking for a 51st
state? Who's asking for millions of new welfare recipients and government
entitlement addicts in the middle of a depression? Certainly not American
taxpayers. But this has been Obama's plan all along. His goal is to add two
new Democrat senators, five Democrat congressman and a million loyal
Democratic voters who are dependent on big government.
-- Legalize 12 million illegal immigrants. Just giving these
12 million potential new citizens free health care alone could overwhelm the
system and bankrupt America . But it adds 12 million reliable new Democrat
voters who can be counted on to support big government. Add another few
trillion dollars in welfare, aid to dependent children, food stamps, free
medical, education, tax credits for the poor, and eventually Social
Security.
-- Stimulus and bailouts. Where did all that money go? It
went to Democrat contributors, organizations (ACORN), and unions --
including billions of dollars to save or create jobs of government employees
across the country. It went to save GM and Chrysler so that their employees
could keep paying union dues. It went to AIG so that Goldman Sachs could be
bailed out (after giving Obama almost $1 million in contributions). A
staggering $125 billion went to teachers (thereby protecting their union
dues). All those public employees will vote loyally Democrat to protect
their bloated salaries and pensions that are bankrupting America . The
country goes broke, future generations face a bleak future, but Obama, the
Democrat Party, government, and the unions grow more powerful. The ends
justify the means.
-- Raise taxes on small business owners, high-income
earners, and job creators. Put the entire burden on only the top 20 percent
of taxpayers, redistribute the income, punish success, and reward those who
did nothing to deserve it (except vote for Obama). Reagan wanted to
dramatically cut taxes in order to starve the government. Obama wants to
dramatically raise taxes to starve his political opposition.
With the acts outlined above, Obama and his regime have
created a vast and rapidly expanding constituency of voters dependent on big
government; a vast privileged class of public employees who work for big
government; and a government dedicated to destroying capitalism and
installing themselves as socialist rulers by overwhelming the system.
Add it up and you've got the perfect Marxist scheme -- all
devised by my Columbia University college classmate Barack Obama using the
Cloward and Piven Plan.

There are people that will simply read and delete this... maybe not
read it at all.

There are others that are so wrapped up with Obama-mania that they will
never accept any criticism of him.
There are those that say, 'I'm too old to worry about this crap... it's not
going to affect me'!
Finally, there are professional blood-suckers that live off everyone else's
sweat -- they want more 'Free Stuff'. And we all know where they stand.
If you care about your future, or maybe your children or grandchildren's
future, do something now.
Vote the bums out of office this November. And, make Obama a one-term
president.

Ed,
Kevin Drum's piece which initially references the so called "widely read piece" "The Tea Party Jacobin's" by Mark Lilla is really a pile of misinformation and false comparisons, and crediting Lilla's piece as having any validity is just plain foolish.
First Drum says: "and he (Lilla) described the movement this way:

It supports with worshipful intensity the Constitution of the United States; it places itself on the side of the individual and of liberty in opposition to an encroaching government bureaucracy; it respects the judgment of the founding fathers who had so wisely incorporated the separation of federal powers and the rights of the states into the great national document; it defends the American right to enjoy the sweat of one's own labor and the rewards of one's ability.

But then Drum says: "Actually, Lilla didn't write that last bit. Another historian did."
So write off the bat Drum puts words into Lilla's mouth and then owns up that they weren't actually Lilla's words in an attempt to equate the earlier historians words with Lilla's in an attempt to equate the "Tea Party" to the American Liberty League (ALL)of the 1930's. Now I don't doubt that Lilla would have said it, but what a slovenly attempt to create Deja Vu in the minds of the readers.
Now any attempt to equate the Tea Party to the ALL is doomed to fail by simply comparing the makeup of the two groups, and the structure. The ALL was composed of Industrialists and conservative Democrats and was a top down organization funded to a large extent by the DuPonts. The Tea Party has no central organization, is largely composed of small groups working towards a common goal with little coordination.
I didn't go much further given the initial dishonesty of Drum's hatchet job, but the first quote he attributed to Lilla is as revealing to his motives as the Journo-List and East Anglia emails were to the patent dishonesty of "main stream media".
In reference to the Tea Party Drum quotes Lilla: "A new strain of populism is metastasizing before our eyes", inferring the Tea Party as a cancer. A more apt analogy given the decentralized "distributed network" makeup of the Tea Party, would be the Tea Party as "T-Cells" attacking a cancerous tumor.

Ed Cone

Yeah, the Kochs don't resemble the industrialists behind the ALL in the slightest.

Seriously, though, the quote thing is supposed to be evidence of dishonesty? Silly.

eric

Seriously. You wanna see some real dishonesty? Check out the latest puerile stunt from Breitbart Buddy and Fox Fave James "Every Idea I Have Is From a Bad 70s Porn Video" O'Keefe. And listen to the crickets chirp as you wait for the reactionary peanut gallery to condemn this garbage.

Thomas

"From his college classmate"

Yep. Just a concerned acquaintance.

Grant

Thanks, JS. That was...informative. Aside from the missive's wackiness, I'm trying to fathom why anyone would want public affairs updates from the former host of FNN Zone with Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder and author of The King of Vegas' Guide to Gambling.

Grant: I just get the emails from people around town that I know. I did confront some birthers at a tea party last year in Raleigh, but I just don't have the energy to lecture every senior citizen who sends me an email. I delete them and move on, but lately the volume is such that I am considering getting a new email account.

Grant

No, I'm serious. It was interesting. There's an entire ecosystem out there that latte-sippers like me are only vaguely aware of. Though I'm pretty sure this is exactly the kind of stuff my parents are reading.
