Here's a PDF of what Google actually wants from applicants.
Seems to me the City is doing a good job. Just add an official website documenting its efforts and linking out to various community assets -- everything from this to this, plus project-specific media and evidence of offical buy-in -- and we're rolling.
Action Greensboro could help by corralling the bigwigs and getting their input and participation.
Looks like they are on the ball. I'm just curious, why hasn't Winston-Salem shown interest in Google?

Check out what Topeka, Kansas just did. The town has been renamed Google, Kansas. Temporarily at least. From CNN:

topeka must be a corny place to live.

Someone pointed that out in another thread. I don't think it will help them at all.

Yea Sean, Topeka is an amaizeing place.

Of course Topeka won't get Google because of this temporary name change. But it does show that they're having a little fun with this. Are we having any fun with it yet?

did you see this time warner and the mayor of greensboro team up in business journal TWANDMAYORKNIGHT
kind of interesting during all of this talk of google and i am sure time warner will have plenty to say in regards to any competition to cities like greensboro

Triadwatch, In other words: We'll not be seeing Google or anyone else bringing high speed fiber to Greensboro anytime soon.
Why is it Greensboro always chases pie in the sky ideas but never fails to forget the reasons companies pick the cities they pick?

Even if you are not the 'perfect' or 'best' candidate for a job, you need to prepare and interview for the job with the mindset that you are going to be the best person for it. Other cities will do their thing to try to get Google and the Triad cities should focus on what they bring, not dwell on any possible deficiency.

We do our best, learn from the effort, and build on what we've done.
And Billy gets to say "I told you so" for doubting a project everyone knows is a long shot. Everyone wins.
The point of Topeka's stunt is that they're showing official enthusiasm. Of course it won't win the game, but it shows interest in a healthy way.

Ed, very happy to see you say "We do our best, learn from the effort, and build on what we've done." That is a key part of this experience for all involved.

Exactly Jim, and the question I've been asking all along is: What has Greensboro got to offer that 100 other cities can't match?
And to date NONE of you have been able to answer that question but if you can answer that question then GReensboro will get Google and any other company they want.
Fools, the lot of you.
