Agreed. Once upon a time, long, long ago, I was a public affairs officer for the Air Force. So, I'll say that the folks at Bregg botched this. The number of non-Palin-fanatics who know she's coming there has increased significantly because of the media coverage of their decisions. I.e., she's gotten a lot of free ink thanks to them.

If the exchange where Palin will appear is always open to the public, then the best approach would have been to quietly facilitate and manage access by any press that wanted to show up. Instead, the PAO's and the base's policy are in the news, which is not where they want to be.

If the exchange is usually closed to the public and a special exemption was made for Palin's appearance, then they might want to look at that decision.
