Consumers’ new-found freedom to choose has struck fear into the hearts of the cable companies. They have been trying to slow internet television’s steady march into the living room by rolling out DOCSIS 3 at a snail’s pace and then stinging customers for its services. Another favourite trick has been to cap the amount of data that can be downloaded, or to charge extortionately by the megabyte.
Yet the measures to suffocate internet television being taken by the cable companies may already be too late...
Thnx to alert reader DE for the link. Our local provider is called out by name: "Time Warner Cable remains in the dark ages with its Road Runner service dribbling out three megabits a second (if you are lucky) for $35 a month."

Thanks -- I've mentioned the effort to restrict municipal broadband, but it's interesting to see TWC front and center on the issue.
