Perhaps the only thing more traditional in Chicago politics than crooked machine operatives are the reformers who come to office pledging to clean up machine graft only to end up playing the same game, poorly, themselves. See, e.g., the case of Larry Bloom former Alderman for Hyde Park (where Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and I were once neighbors).
