Just finished White Noise. Worth the effort. Reminded me in some ways of Heller's Something Happened, although very different. Kept checking to make sure it was really published 22 years ago, because (but for the absence of details like the internet and mobile phones and "reality" television) it felt like it was written yesterday, which is pretty remarkable for a book keyed to popular culture. The lede of Diane Johnson's review looks prescient itself, while Jonathan Yardley's take (as described in the Johnson piece, I couldn't find it online) seems rather behind the curve.
That book really stuck with me. You are right that it is worth the effort.

The character Murray is one of the funniest I've encountered in literature -- almost Falstaffian in hilarity. Twenty plus years after encountering him, I still chuckle when I go into a grocery store or hear Elvis.
