Doug Clark in District 1: "I didn't expect so many people to come out, nor did I anticipate the depth of their unhappiness."
Allen Johnson at the same meeting: "It was if all these views and passions had been pent up for months and all of a sudden, someone was willing to listen."
Just two of the five D1 candidates have websites. Neither has yet bothered to post anything about the forum.
About half of the at-large candidates have websites. Not a peep from any of them.
The people want to be heard.
The candidates aren't taking advantage of the simplest way to say "I hear you," and to keep listening when no town meetings or campaign events are scheduled.
It's kind of pathetic.
D3 meeting tonight at Benjamin branch library.
Do you know the time of the D3 meeting tonight?

Allen: If you will recall at the District 1 meeting, one of the ladies in attendance asked for a response from the cadidates and you would not let us respond at that time.
Roch: the meeting is at 6:30

The purpose of the meetings is to let citizens speak. Candidates have their own forums, including Monday evening at Greensboro College for at-large candidates.

The candidates should be using the web to address the issues raised at the voter forums.
They could have blog posts and photos up shortly after the meetings, and allow comments and conversations online, too.
Not everyone's online - so print the web page and drop off copies at the forum site for people to pick up.
It's really pretty simple.
The lackluster web campaign makes me wonder about the candidates in the race.

Ed - did you get my position paper ? How do I get it posted? Thanks
Posted by: Sidney Gray | Sep 20, 2007 at 04:37 PM
Are you asking me to post it at my blog?
Posted by: Ed Cone | Sep 20, 2007 at 04:55 PM
Yes. I would love for your readers to be able to read my position on the issues and ask me questions. I am not accepting monetary donations for my candidacy and I would like to offer some solutions to the many problems that our community faces.

Sidney, congrats on your kids - I think you've got marriages or engagements? Please get in touch and I'll be happy to help you set it up on your own free blog. email me at sue-at-techtriad-dot-com. If it's here at Ed's as well, that's fine too.

"Doug Clark in District 1: 'I didn't expect so many people to come out, nor did I anticipate the depth of their unhappiness.'"
The same holds for D3.
We were also surprised at and disappointed about the format.

I also think the anti-incumbent sentiment runs deeper than most people realize.
Don't be surprised at a larger turnout than normal, a situation that will not favor incumbents, but does favor the cause of good government.

I was at the D1 and D3 meetings. I felt the people want to know UPFRONT where the candidates stand on the issues. I have a position and ask that you read it. sidneygray.blogspot.com I invite your questions and I will respond. I am not accepting any monetary contributions for my campaign. I am independent in mind and thought and not obligated to anyone.

Bubba,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hello at the meeting, it was good to see you there, though (You too Blogging Poet.)
I liked the format. I thought it was a great way for the N&R and the candidates in attendance to take the pulse of the community. You are right, people are not happy, there is a groundswell of anti-incumbent feeling and these will likely result in high voter turnout.
Thanks to the N&R for doing this and thanks to the candidates who showed up (Cindy Hayworth, Joe Wilson, Zack Matheney and Berkely Blanks running for district 3 and Janet Wallace, Greg Woodard and Sidney Gray for at-large seats.) We noticed who was there and who was absent.
