John Hammer (unposted; 3/29/07, p4) says Tim Bellamy "is a fine man and has been a good police officer...But being chief of the Greensboro Police Department is not going to be a cakewalk." Hammer says Bellamy needs to act as chief, not Mitch Johnson's puppet; promote good people to replace recent losses; and deal with alleged corruption inside the department.

I hope that's not supposed to imply that Tim took the job thinking it was going to be a "cakewalk." Or even that he would have wanted it to be a "cakewalk."
I mean, 1.) Tim knows what he's doing. And 2.) Has Hammer ever been to a cakewalk? You walk around and around in a circle, you get dizzy after a while, the music is usually really annoying, most of the time it's not even stuff you can dance to, and if you do dance, you might get distracted and lose your place in the cakewalk line, and even if you win, 9 times out of 10 you will get some cake you didn't want, or can't eat because it has coconut or pecans or something else you don't like or you're allergic to, and why can't they just have chocolate truffle cakes from Ganache at a cakewalk, anyway -- that cake I would walk around in circles to organ-grinding music all day to win... but I digress. Back to point #1. Tim knows what he's doing.

I agree, Bellamy knows what he is doing because he has been doing it for well over a year now. He will hold the position QUIETLY. If he attempts to take charge and power away from Mictch Johnson he too will find himself in trouble. I am now interested in seeing who he promotes to the vacant positions. We have yet to see the SBI report, nor are we informed as to the other investigations going on by other agencies. Bellamy knows what is coming down because he knows what has been going on in the GPD for years. In the meantime he gets a little prestige and a big pay increase. BB
