I love this. Buy local! Eat local!

Turnip greens are fabulous and I miss eating them regularly, yes with evil ham hocks but who cares about the nitrites and fat? I cook collards and kale here in Northern California, usually Mediterranean style with garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and maybe hot pepper if I'm feeling it.

I love old style Southern cooking. We had spoon bread and (Niman Ranch nitrite-free smoked) ham for Christmas lunch. Keep the food posts coming.

I grew up eating various greens cooked with fatback and served with vinegar. Good stuff.

Lisa salted and boiled last nights turnips, adding a little olive oil.
