Prose Writers Night Out had its inaugural run last night at the Green Bean.
Jill Yesko put it together, and also read her own funny, harrowing piece about a visit to the doctor with her aging dad. Jill's idea is that poets and fiction writers have their readings, so maybe essayists and such should get a moment at the mic as well.
She's right. It worked very well. I hope it will happen again, soon -- there are plenty of good writers (including bloggers) out there I'd like to hear live and in person.
Among the readers last night were Ed Schubert, Dena Harris, Sam Hieb, Pamela King Cable, and Jacqueline Oates. Good stuff -- certainly the best use of the phrase "glowing vagina" I've ever heard -- and well-presented, too.

And the worst?

Thanks so much for being a part of the evening. There was real warmth at The Green Bean and not just from its being a beautiful downtown spring evening.

And the worst?
...Ahab did not fall down and worship it like them; but deliriously transferring its idea to the abhorred Glowing Vagina, he pitted himself, all mutilated, against it. All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought; all evil, to crazy Ahab, were visibly personified, and made practically assailable in Glowing Vagina.
