Garrison Keillor played Greensboro last night as part of Guilford College's Bryan speaker series. Tix went so fast that a second show was added at War Memorial Auditorium; a total of 4,400 ducats were sold.
Polecat Creek, with Laurelyn Dossett on vocals, guitar and bass, Kari Sickenberger on vocals and guitar, and Natalya Weinstein on fiddle, opened both of the Lake Woebegone star's solo performances with 20-minute sets of original music.
Notes from an attendee: "While Keillor makes much of his shyness, he was animated, theatrical and entirely engaging. The audience was rapt, laughed often and gave him a standing ovation after both shows."
Keillor closed both performances by inviting Laurelyn and Kari on stage to sing harmony with him on the gospel hymn Farther Along.
