I see nothing but good coming from this action and glad it was unanimous. DGI won't go away as they are still the entity to which BID money goes. It seems that the City is just looking at pulling back the marketing and economic development funds from DGI. I would expect that the City Manager could look at opening up an RFP process. This could also be the call to action DGI needs to make changes - reconfiguration of the board and a new Executive Director would be good places to start.

Nancy V. continues to impress me no end.

I agree with David Hoggard.

You know, this would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. The City Council has done more in the past few years to hamper and hinder living and working in downtown Greensboro, from noise ordinances pushed by a very wealthy misanthrope to punitive and prohibative proposed "safety" regulations that would surely put more than a few bars and clubs who have been absolutely above board in their operating out of business.

So who do they point the finger at? The one entity whose raison d'etre is to bring business, art and fun to the center city. Yeah, DGI, they're the jerks. It surely can't be the moron who represents the downtown district on the City Council or the ethically challenged I've Never Met A Land Boondoggle I Didn't Support New Age Old Boys Club mayor that everyone decided would be just WONDERFUL.

Talk about praise from Ceasar.

It's probably fair to say that Matheny and Perkins, the former by being recused and the latter by opposing the mini-majority, were instrumental in removing those who sought to reopen the White Street Landfill. Matheny has shown himself to be a compassionate and deliberative public servant. Perkins and Matt Brown have pushed too hard at times, but the mayor was elected with the full knowledge of his professional ambitions. I still contend that in a pinch, Perkins has what it takes to make the right decision and has proven that on many occasions.

If either decide to defend their seats it will take somebody other than retreads or crazed bloggers to defeat them. The Tea Party will no doubt present a phalanx of the usual whack jobs, but it is my belief the voters are energized and forewarned. NC may be lost to the social retards, but there is no indication such is the case in Greensboro.

Ther have been no new ideas from DGI, well what took City Council so long to see that, Eric has seen it longer, oh I know the answer, Elections are coming up and some might what to stay away from any drama.

The fact is that DGI has needed change for years but some on council want to make it look like this is a new problem and they are taking action. I am waiting to see what is done in regards to DGI before the election, some might want to stall and try to come out smelling like roses.

I like people to remember that this years elections have no single issue to cloud peoples mind, last election was White Street landfill. I think some council members will put on a show.

"the mayor was elected with the full knowledge of his professional ambitions."

Factually incorrect.

Robbie won on the White Street Landfill.

The GPAC was not the top item during the election.

It wasn't even on the radar screen.

Fec endorsed what may look like one of the most crooked mayors in Greensboro's history.

This mayor slid a 45 decibel noise ordinance into a meeting agenda for Roy as he was the listing agent for the commercial properties below. Meanwhile Roy just opened up Innisbrook, which has apartments abutting I40, with no sound wall, and no sound wall coming.

Robbie is the listing agent for Roy's outparcel where apartments were constructed and leased in the noise cone of the airport.

"Robbie won on the White Street Landfill."

Getting the low information vote is usually the key in municipal elections here.
