Apparently, no actual news happened here in Mayberry yesterday.
At least the new editor is taking things seriously and engaging readers over at his blog, where he addresses questions about the accuracy of a recent front-page report on the wage gap between men and women. Haha jk he's really busy catching up on that NYT story about GSO everyone else talked about three days ago and pondering heavy stuff like "Why do we so love animal pics?"

He sure seems hell bent on peddling his preconceptions about Greensboro, doesn't he? We locals are good for our quaint stereotypes of Southern hospitality and barbeque, but it's up to others to tackle the serious stuff, even if it's about us.
He blogged about Amendment One in "the blogoshere" and did not cite a single local blog. He blogs about some maps illustrating North Carolina's votes on Amendment One, but ignores (or is unaware) of the locally sourced interactive map illustrating precinct level data on the vote in Guilford County.
I count 28 blog posts since he started and only one link to a local site (a candidate's campaign site) and zero links to local news, opinion or blogs.
I understand the guy needs some time to get the lay of the land, but let's move beyond the Connecticut Yankee in King Petty's court shtick already and get in sync with the realities and aspirations of Greensboro.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this.
I was actually embarrassed on Monday when an article about our South Elm Urban Market appeared in that same above-the-fold spot. Don't get me wrong, we appreciate the shout out (although the article was not exactly a ringing endorsement of our efforts so I would have been very ok with it being stuffed in another section), but I just kept thinking -- "Really? THIS is the most important news of the day?"
No wonder the reporter from NPR is reading the W-S Journal while waiting for the Edwards verdict.

sad to say but i expect to see a surge in N&R subscriptions as this is the type of stuff the conservatives live for and want to read about....didn't an article come out recently that Fox news watchers are the least informed?

If you try hard enough any topic can be used as a weapon. Can't we all just get along?
