Cutting our way to prosperity:
As state funding has dwindled, public colleges have raised tuition and are now resorting to even more desperate measures — cutting training for jobs the economy needs most...
...At one community college in North Carolina — a state with a severe nursing shortage — nursing program applicants so outnumber available slots that there is a waiting list just to get on the waiting list.
Maybe NC should forget about the gays and amend its constitution to make this OK.

I think the equation in their heads is something like this:
"Fewer educated people in North Carolina IS BETTER than more educated people in North Carolina"
This is the problem with slavish devotion to an ideology. When we stop thinking for ourselves and turn to oracles for every answer, we invariably advocate stupid things. It doesn't matter if you are on the right of the spectrum or the left or in the center. The problem is giving up on figuring things out for yourself and turning your brain over to a false reality.

It is far from just one community college nursing program that cannot meet the demand. It is a consistent problem across the state.
