Charlotte wields a heavy pen on DNC docs:
"Almost by definition, something that is publicly known can’t be a security issue," Martin said. "They are being far more generous in redacting than I think is warranted."
QC has reasons to be careful -- people were preparing to disrupt the convention long before Occupy arose -- but this stuff makes the city that wants so much to have that "comma North Carolina" removed from its name look bush league.

Government secrecy is more addictive than crack. Perhaps the Charlotte Observer, or someone else, will sue to force the city to comply with the Open Records law. But, by the time that happens, nobody will care anymore. There will be no real consequences for the public officials who thumbed their noses at the public's right to know. The taxpayers of Charlotte will get stuck with the bill for this mishegas. And the same sort of abuse will continue in the future. Sigh.

Secrecy about closing the courts. Seriously.
Why do we even pretend that the rule of law matters anymore?
