I'm enjoying Nick Carr's The Shallows, which has the ironic bonus of being a highly readable book about how hard it is to read books these days.
Here's my column on the article that sparked the book (I had not realized how often I recommend that people read War and Peace).
I'm still reading long-form works, and I think my internet jones is under control (without requiring drastic measures). My son, meanwhile, leveraged his web-sparked creative streak into early admission to a good college with a film program, and he's even managed to plow through some pleasure reading (thank you, Kurt Vonnegut) along the way.

Re your column on Carr's book: Beware of multitasking. After all, texting and driving are just that and may lead to a pretty high cost.
