Goodness, this is exciting.
UPDATE: New mayor. Vaughan pro tem, Perkins and Thompson at large. Rakestraw over Landau. Change in land of the status quo.

The voting public obviously yearns for strict adherence to Robert's Rules of Order... and a retired CPA.

That mayors race is a nail bitter. I didn't think he would stand a chance. What a story.

God help us black folks.
This is a man who insinuates that a person of color who has a leadership role, only got it because he/she is black.
After tonight Greensboro deserves everything it gets. If you all think this city was polarize before, you ain't seen nothing yet. Ole bill is going to bring the Golden years back, just remember, the 50s wasn't so Golden for some of us.
Can't wait for Robby to be our mayor.
Hi Fec, and thanks for letting me vent, but I'm pissed off right now.

Sour grapes! Then play the race card. Unfortunately, typical for this town. Very disappointing. Congrats to Mr. Knight!

Yep and ya'll been playing it for the past two years.

Ed, this is trolling. It's weaksauce, but it's trolling, nevertheless.

so if someone who isn't on the knight train is a troll?
Guess it has already started. Black folks better shape up or else.

What does "anom" mean?
Posted by: Jeffrey Sykes | Nov 03, 2009 at 10:24 PM
Judging from his grammatical skill, or lack-there-of, I am pretty sure he/she means "anon." If you choose to color code leadership, which only an ignorant proto-racist bigot would do, move to Charlotte. The "New" Black Panthers were out in force today on the south side and more than likely they secured a win for Anthony Foxx.
By the way, when did Bill Knight inject race into the election?
Posted by: A. Bulluck | Nov 03, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Bill Knight is a straight arrow with zero baggage.
Greensboro just (re)entered the realm of excellence.
About damned time.

I am surprised by this result. I voted for Mayor Johnson. Even though I disagreed with her position on Mitchell Johnson, she seemed able to put it behind her and move on. I think she's found a decent city manager in Rashad Young. I guess the David Wray backlash was too much for her. Congrats to our new Mayor Bill Knight. He has his work cut out for him.

"God help us black folks."
When are you black folks going to stop looking at everything in terms of color? That will be the day you can expect God to help you. He hates finger pointing.

I suspect anom is a commenter I am honored to have at my place. We have too few black folks blogging and I value her perspective. As context, Bulluck, a very long time commenter here, was recently called a troll.
The view that Knight's election is racial backlash seems valid to some. I suggest we countenance the opinion even if we don't agree.
Posted by: Fec | Nov 03, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Fec, those were touching comments. I'm surprised to hear them from you.
Net effect: Knight's career/background point toward a new advent of financial responsibility for Greensboro; I suspect that a decrease in Greensboro's tax rate is a pleasant possibility, given all the fat that exists.
I'll bet that Rashad Young will find Knight to be a far better partner than Johnson when it comes to day-to-day governance.
Posted by: Jeff | Nov 03, 2009 at 11:11 PM
Ngee, if you think Knight is a racist, come out and say it. By they way, I did vote for Knight, Thompson, and Nettie Coad.

I don't know Bill and want to congratulate him on becoming Mayor. I have to say as David Hoggard pointed out last night, there is a great divide in Greensboro. http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/Guilford/10983/18827/en/md.html?cid=0103
