I hate being Cell Phone Guy and imposing a loud half-conversation on others, but yesterday I grabbed a couple of free minutes on the ride to my office to catch up with my mom. When we were done discussing the popularity of Cavalier King Charles spaniels in New York, the cabbie caught my glance in the rear-view mirror.
I said, "You gotta call your mother."
He told me he spoke to his mom in New Delhi every day, and felt at peace after doing so. Then he cursed in what I guess was Hindi at another cab that honked at his bold lane-change.

I'm scared to call my Mother. Afterwards, I think up is down and left is right. I literally stay disoriented for days afterward.

Ed has occasionally been annoyed after talking to me, but to the best of my knowledge has not been affected that negatively or powerfully. My sympathy, Fec--that is a real loss for you and probably for your mother, too.

A lot of water has run under the bridge. We manage.

Reminds me of Alabama football coach Bear Bryant doing a TV commercial for whichever pre-1983 phone company provided service in Alabama. The punchline was supposed to be "Have you called yo' mama today?" In one take he added the ad-libbed, " ... I sure wish I could still call mine," and that ended up being the version they used.
