More North Carolinians support either gay marriage or civil unions than oppose any legal recognition for same-sex couples. More oppose a gay-marriage ban than support it, too.

If that's the case then why won't Hackey allow the DOMA to come to the floor for a vote by the people's representatives?

Um, because he's under no obligation to hold a vote on a blatantly unconstitutional bill and in fact owes it to his constituents and North Carolinians in general to quash such legislation?
Government needs to get out of the marriage business. Period.
