Kay Hagan seems to have learned something from her uncle, former Florida governor Walkin' Lawton Chiles.

Her campaign touts its "aggressive grassroots efforts" in an email announcing a canvassing effort today in five NC counties, including Cumberland, Guilford, New Hanover, Pitt and Wake.

Field Director Leah Johnson is quoted: "We have set up phone banks several nights a week and Kay's supporters will continue to canvass neighborhoods, hold house parties and meet and greets through November 4th."

The campaign also is holding "family reunions" at which Kay and her family will meet and greet people across the state. The next one is scheduled for June 7 in Asheboro.

The campaign is doing a good job of pushing its message out on the web, although I haven't seen much indpendent, grassroots web activity happening yet.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Dole has launched a TV ad, but I still don't see evidence of an active on-the-ground campaign. With Dole's reputation as an absentee Senator one of her biggest liabilities, this seems a curious strategy.
