Maybe political commentary magazines should stick to political commentary:
After months of accusations that reports written in The New Republic by “The Baghdad Diarist,” an American Army private, about the cruelty of ordinary soldiers in Iraq were false, the magazine says that as a result of its own investigation it can no longer stand by the articles.
At the same time, National Review, one of the conservative magazines that strongly attacked The New Republic over the diarist articles, finds itself fending off accusations that accounts of armed Hezbollah gunmen in Lebanon reported in its blog in September were erroneous.

Ed,
For four months you have been silent on TNR's (and Foer) stonewalling about their fabulist Scott Beauchamp. I think you told me .." TNR was a big war booster " thus it wasn't news although Bob Owens has been on the case since day onea nd wrapped it up here.
MSM Finally Takes Head Out Of ---
Only when you see NR making a boo boo do you speak up. Oh, you are soooo late and soooo transparent with the lame attempt at journalistic ethical equivilancy. That dog won't hunt.
Here Is The Big Differnce

I waited for the matter to be resolved before commenting on it. The article in today's Times on the resolution includes the news about the NRO fiasco as well.
TNR's cheerleading for the war is relevant to this story insofar as it undermines the idea that the magazine has some sort of overarching agenda against US military action in Iraq.
In your conspiratorial view, I must have some rooting interest for TNR. Why? Because it was a liberal magazine a generation ago, before edging right for years and finally drinking the neocon koolaid? That doesn't make sense even by the cable news standards you want to apply to reality.
Sorry, but I don't read it, and don't care much about it. I thought fact that it got Glassed again was interesting enough to link, but seriously -- so what? What is the big lesson? A dying opinion magazine got fooled on some stories about a war it supported. The same might be said of the NRO stories.

Took a look around, see which way the wind blow...."
