Lawndale Drive just north of Cornwallis is notable, as Ben Briggs writes, "for its grand canopy of Willow Oaks."
Those are some seriously fine trees.
And this being Greensboro, you can see where this story is headed.
Someone wants to rezone the land and take down the trees to make the world safe for a Walgreens.
Because if there's anything Greensboro needs, it's another drugstore. Especially in that part of town.

Let's just give up and cut 'em all down. I'll buy a wood stove and heat my house with Irving Park oak. I'm no expert but I can run a bulldozer well enough to grub trees, maybe I can find some work? Maybe we can just bulldoze and burn all of Greensboro?
Yeah, political burn out has set in.

Lawndale has aspirations of becoming another Battleground.
Driving down Battleground - what a wonderful experience! Nothing as far as the eye can see but business after business, sign after sign. And I haven't even mentioned the drivers - ah, it makes the heart trill with excitement to imagine myself casually exceeding the speed limit on Battleground and have some lovely mother on her cell phone in an SUV behind me able to check her makeup in my rear view mirror.
It really is too bad that every street can't be like Battleground. Even Wendover is a little jealous. Who needs trees when you could have a Starbucks every other block?

There is a Walgreens or some such store about every 3 feet in Greensboro. It's annoying. If they really feel the need to build more retail, might I suggest, (no, actually, BEG), for it to be put in Reedy Fork. I'm really tired of having to drive everywhere. I'd be very happy if I could walk or bike to a store. A nice, small, tasteful, retail area with a grocery store, drug store and a Dunkin' Donuts would make me smile.

Some people just don't care. Let's turn the whole city into a parking lot to make developers who don't live here rich.

Having lived in that area of town, there is no need for another pharmacy, or "drug store" of any kind. They sit on every corner. Be gone with them!

I completely agree with Sam and Alan. Remarkable. How can the city support this many drugstores? And banks? Every new building seems to be either, at least in the northwest part of town.

please tell us who this "someone" is that wants to re-zone the property on Lawndale? Is it a Greensboro developer?
