Facebook opening to public search.
Machinist: "What's momentous about Facebook's decision is the effect on the rest of the Web. Facebook is quickly becoming the Web's social networking standard, the place where, soon, everyone -- across demographic and social classes, it now seems -- will maintain a profile. Now that profile will be exposed to anyone looking for information about you, transforming Facebook, as Om Malik puts it, into the 'quasi-White Pages of the Web.'"

Another concern for those of us who publish websites and blogs is that Facebook could potentially outrank our own sites in search engine page rank. I had this very same thing happen to me at a Yahoo owned site.
So I deleted my membership in that site. If the same happens at Facebook I'm out of there too.
