McCain keeps counting by the F.U., but things don't add up. Wonder why?

In Iraq: "A carefully constructed compromise on a draft law governing Iraq's rich oil fields...appears to have collapsed. The apparent breakdown comes just as Congress and the White House are struggling to find evidence that there is progress toward reconciliation and a functioning government here." (Flashback: Wolfowitz said oil revenue would pay for reconstruction. How's that coming?)

And this: "The leader of local Sunni tribes in Iraq who have joined American and Iraqi forces in fighting extremist Sunni militants was killed by a bomb today, Iraqi police officials said, potentially undermining what has become a new thrust of United States policy in the country."

The cut to pre-surge troop levels was a given, and the gains may be short-lived.

The intense spin of the last several weeks seems to be coming unspun.

UPDATE: In advance of tonight's speech, a reminder of what was supposed to be happening now.

You mean the General Betray Us meme, and other assorted pushback from various Nutroot/"Progressive" sources?
