The N&R campaign blog lists local candidate websites. I learned quite a bit in just a few minutes of clicking around.

It's hard for me to take seriously a candidate who is not on the web in some fashion -- the messages sent  about communication skills, accessibility, and general awareness of the year on the calendar are just too depressing to contemplate.

Ed,

Mostly agree with you here. I believe anyone running for office is seriously missing the boat by not leveraging the web to introduce themselves and communicate their platform. I don't know that I agree with not "taking them seriously" though. I would certainly prefer to have elected leadership that is aware/involved in technology at a min. of being able to have an intellegent conversation about how it can shape and further the Triad e.g. - small example - city wide wi-fi and free wi-fi at PTI. It does concerns me that several candidates I like either have no presence (at least listed in your entry) or their effort approaches something my 10 year old could produce on MySpace (take a hint Milton).

Thanks for posting the URLs.

I have philosophical and business interests in local citizens media. Any candidate who does not have a web presence is not automatically disqualified from my vote. Nor is a candidate who has a web presence automatically qualified. Rather, I'm looking to see who is willing to engage this medium as a means of regular, open and broad communication with the citizens of Greensboro.

If you don't have a blog, ignore blog conversations about local issues and decline to respond to questions from local bloggers like Joe Guarino and Matt Comer, then you will not get my vote. Does that make me an inconsequential ass? Yeah, unless you lose by one vote.

It takes a lot more than some sort of online presence to interest me, much less convince me to vote for someone. I would vote for a qualified candidate without a web presence over an unqualified candidate with all the bells and whistles.

But in 2007, what does it say about a candidate to ignore the web completely?

It tells me they don't know or care enough about communicating with voters and constituents. Not an encouraging message.

How about this, I'll rent my blog for the right price?
