Howard Kurtz in the Washington Post: "I'm getting pretty tired of anti-blogger critiques from folks who don't seem to know much about the subject. The latest is Elon University professor Michael Skube in the LAT."
It's a widespread sentiment, and Jay Rosen's detailed rebuttal hasn't yet appeared at the LAT site.
Let's take a moment to remember that Michael Skube is a real person, a neighbor to those of us in the NC Piedmont, and a distinguished journalist who represents a prized local university. He didn't kill anyone, or even any dogs, he wrote a couple of flawed columns on a subject that gets some of us quite excited.
Jay's column will move this discussion forward by providing links and context. I'm interested in what comes after that column. I hope Michael Skube will join this conversation at some point, and that if he does, readers and commenters will welcome him rather than just piling on yet again.

No doubt that blogs are a difficult form of communication for many folks. The, at times, battlefield mode and viciousness on the blogs keeps the participation limited. But the blogs probably reflect who we are even though we would like to do/be better.
