LAT looks at the impact of personal publishing on local politics: "These muckraking bloggers say they have stepped in to fill the government watchdog vacuum. Some are anonymous, others are scurrilous and, on occasion, possibly libelous. And to local politicians, most are a royal pain in the tuchis."

Personally I think blogs have filled that gap from when people actually used to talk to one another. To gossip. Now we can't, because we're all to busy working for the "man". Or to scared of our various raced neighbors. Blogging is a virtual town hall.
