Bulletin of Atomic Scientists: "We stand at the brink of a second nuclear age. Not since the first atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki has the world faced such perilous choices...
"...Global warming poses a dire threat to human civilization that is second only to nuclear weapons...The most authoritative scientific group on these issues, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has concluded, 'Most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities'...Observations of changes in the atmosphere, on land, in the oceans, in glaciers, and in polar ice cores have led to worldwide scientific consensus about the causes of climate change."

OMG.. It that damn sun again. Call Jack Bauer.. He'll know what to do.

All this thread tells us is that the Doomsday Crwd from two different (non) disciplines are joining ranks.
why are we not surprised to learn that?

Can anyone tell me, after looking at the board of the "Bulletin of Atomic Scientists," why it shouldn't be called the "Bulletin of Professional Anti-Nuclear Activists With A Couple of Atomic Scientists Thrown In Because We've Got The Word 'Scientist' In Our Name"?
These people have been resetting their little clock since I was in elementary school (and that was quite a while ago, if you must know), and -- all scientific considerations aside -- they're about as scary as Count Floyd.
I mean, really.
"Harry, did you hear that the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists have moved their clock closer to Doomday?"
"No! Really, Edna?" (clutching his heart) "The Atomic scientists? We have to do something!!"

As former subscriber to their Bulletin, I agree with David's assessment.
Had Carl Sagan not scared the planet off from one good nuclear winter, the ominous CO2 trend lines would have corrected themselves.
I'll put money on it that, if you check the bookshelves of the board members for the Atomic scientists, you find copies of Paul Ehrlich's contributions to the art of fear mongering.

Ironic, how, with evolution and global warming, any so-called scientist who opposes them will do, and is trumpeted as a scientist regardless of training or background, while in this case, a bona fide degree in atomic science (whatever that is) appears to be far more important.
Not that I think the Doomsday Clock, which involves nothing more than careful calibration of a metaphor, has much meaning in the post-Cold War world.

This loon wants to yank certification of meteorologists who don't buy her hysteria about global warming:
Dr. Heidi Weather Nazi

Nice non-loaded intro of the link. Nazi, loon, hysteria - way to keep the discussion on rational terms. Sheesh.
Personally, I'd want the AMA not to certify my doctor if he didn't believe germs caused disease - there's something to be said for basic competency in your field.

You want rational.. you can't stand rational..that is unless you call those who question your environmental sacred cows, a bunch of think tank HOs
Hyper Hype

Ironic how we get that particular passage from you, who likes to call highly credentialed people like Richard Lindzen and Pat Michaels "fringe scientists".
I wonder what they call you, assuming that they know you exist.

I believe they call me "Yo Momma."
