WRAL [updated link]: "WRAL confirmed Thursday that the [Duke lacrosse] accuser is pregnant and was admitted to University of North Carolina Hospitals. She isn't due to deliver until February, but her pregnancy hadn't been public knowledge until Thursday evening."
WRAL's Julia Lewis has confirmed that the accuser in the Duke lacrosse case gave birth late Thursday at UNC Hospitals.

Meanwhile, defense attorneys make their move. N&O: If the motions succeed, the attorneys for three indicted former lacrosse players would undermine the foundation of District Attorney Mike Nifong's case. The motions attack the key weaknesses the defense has raised about Nifong's case -- a questionable lineup, the lack of physical evidence and whether the accuser is a reliable witness.

Update: "District Attorney Mike Nifong told a judge during today's Duke lacrosse case hearing that he was unaware of DNA that did not match the accused lacrosse players until this week, when defense lawyers included the information in a motion."

The accuser's relative was on Greta's show and said that the baby's arrival "proved the rape" - clearly this dimbulb doesn't have a clue about the fact that DNA tests have already disproved THAT stupid theory.

Nifong should be sued, jailed and/or run out of town on a rail - or all three simultaneously. The President of Duke should be fired. A large number of the police should be brought up on charges. The accuser should lose custody of her children in perpetuity because she is a train wreck of a human being with absolutely no integrity or ability to tell the truth. And the parents of the 3 accused but innocent boys should sue the bejabbers out of Nifong, Brodhead and anyone else they can, in any way that they can. These boys' lives are forever more tainted and someone must answer for that in a big way. The parents have spent unimaginable amounts of money, I'm sure, attempting to protect their innocent sons. They need to be made whole.

Only in this way - by making an example of Nifong, Brodhead and company - can another travesty of this type be prevented!

Though I haven't heard much of the prosecution's case, I have heard enough from the defense to plant a reasonable doubt in my mind as to whether these guys are guilty or not. But I'd like to get a look at the baby just the same.

Fair enough, I think a DNA test would be more accurate. At this point it seems like the DA's case is a drug abusing, convicted, hooker's unsubstaniated accusation, and nothing supporting that account. If that's the case, Nifong needs to be perp walked.

WRAL's story has changed -- it originally "confirmed" that the baby had been born yesterday, nine months or so after the alleged rape -- now the story is that the bundle of joy is due in Feb.

The nine months thing is not exactly ironclad... gestation is more like 10 months. Or, I should say, the baby is born in the tenth month. It's like 40 weeks. Which means she could have gotten knocked up *after* the alleged incident if the little miracle arrives after the month of December. Nice.
