"Joe Guarino reinforces his preconceptions..."
That's a hoot, Ed, considering the sudden appearance of the RMA report was obviously intended to support the pre-conceived notions of the Evil David Wray.

It's online.

The sudden appearance of the report was facilitated by an ally of David Wray, Bubba.
And the circumstances of its appearance has nothing to do with the substance of the report in any case.

That's a great cartoon.
Is there anybody who didn't get (or didn't get offered) an RMA report at Converge? It was like a giant orgy where everyone had fun, went home exhausted and woke up with herpes (or the moral dilemma equivalent).
I got the sense from a lot of local bloggers that they thought I (and all the other reporters at the N&R) already had a copy, or that we'd seen it. That's certainly not the case. I've seen it NOW - but we're not passing it around the office, printing them off and making paper-airplanes.

"but we're not passing it around the office, printing them off and making paper-airplanes."
your point being what, joe?

I'm going to point out that the RMA report offer or whatever happened after ConvergeSouth, with no connection to it. Conference was over. Slight technicality, but either way it's kind of annoying that people are linking something that happened with a small percentage of bloggers to CS as if CS provided copies.

Correction: conference-goers, not bloggers.

I don't think the cartoon is saying anything that isn't obvious from the fact that immediately after the conference most of the major local bloggers had copies of the RMA. That being said, Ben is absolutely correct that ConvergeSouth and its organizers were not responsible for any RMA-related activities at the conference. I've amended the post containing the cartoon to try to make that more clear.

Sean:
I just thought it was strange that everyone I talked to about the RMA at Converge thought that it had been distributed to all reporters at the N&R. I got my copy the same way a lot of other people did: from bloggers who had copies and didn't mind sharing.
When I told them that very few people at the N&R have seen the actual report, no one seemed to believe me.
I don't disagree that the report should be public - but it just seemed strange to me that people who got their hands on it after the paper did thought we all had it but weren't giving it to them because we thought we should have it and they shouldn't.
I also didn't mean to insinuate that the organizers of ConvergeSouth knew the report was floating around or supported that - just seems a lot of people got it there.

"Is there anybody who didn't get (or didn't get offered) an RMA report at Converge?"
As a matter of fact, Joe, YES, there is. I didn't get it, wasn't offered it, and wouldn't have taken it. I know people who have it and of course, now it's even online. But I still haven't read it and don't plan to. And I don't agree that it should be public.

joe, no one i know thought that all of the (or many) reporters at the n&r had access to the report prior to saturday.
being a reporter at any newspaper (unless you're an a-lister, possibly) is the same as being a widget designer in corporate land; that kind of access is waaaay above your pay grade.
Posted by: sean coon | Oct 19, 2006 at 01:53 PM
I like to think most of us are a little more than widget designers...but you're absolutely right about that sort of access and my pay grade.
But you'd be surprised how many people really don't get that.

don't take that analogy personal, joe, i was being self-referential.
