It's hard to say that Rachel Lea Hunter has sunk to a new low in her campaign for the state Supreme Court; after all, this is a woman who compared a black candidate to a slave on a plantation, lied about a major endorsement, and referred to her opponent and his backers as "the beast" and "mafia."
But in her latest campaign release, Hunter slithers further into the muck. She not only compares Justice Mark Martin to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, she runs a photo of Goebbels alongside a photo of Martin.
Remember, she's not just running for any office...Rachel Lea Hunter wants to be on the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Last time out, when she ran as a Republican, Rachel Lea Hunter merely seemed underqualified and undignified. This time, as a Democrat (albeit one disowned by party leadership), Rachel Lea Hunter comes across as batshit crazy and completely unsuited for a seat on the state's high court.

She's no Democrat.
She is absolutely unfit to hold judicial office.
You can quote me on that.
Posted by: John Burns | Oct 30, 2006 at 12:16 PM
Alas, given the rhetoric and imagery of other campaigns in recent weeks, invoking comparisons to the Nazis as the campaign season draws to a close seems almost tame and even predictable.
Without taking Rachel Hunter's "side" on any issue, I understand that you hate her and her rhetoric. You think she's not qualified for the job she's seeking. And all of that is fine. It's a free country. But "batshit crazy" takes the name-calling a bit too far in "civil" discourse.
You're also fairly obviously trying to provoke someone who will take the nasty slur as an invitation to defend her honor. Then the gang-bashing will begin.
It would be nice if he would not take the bait this time . . . and let this particular provovation swing in the wind for what it is.
Posted by: Dr. Mary Johnson | Oct 30, 2006 at 12:27 PM
"batshit crazy". I like that one, Ed. John, David Duke was no Republican either, but that's the banner he ran under.
I find it harder every day to believe that Hunter is actually employed by a law firm. That's gotta be good for clients.

Wow Ed! You have really reach a new low for a jouralist as it appears that you might need some humanity therapy like some of the hate mongers you have here.
It appears that the little beast has come out in you. I think Brother Pat Robinson might have you down as a hot propect for the demon casting out religious rites.
ps...When can I expect a prayer for RLH tumor to go away. Forget the Get Well card, you are too much of a cheap skate to buy one anyway. Now don't you feel like a piece of feces.

So John! Are you still running for Party Chair of Wake County as it appears that you have adopted the new and amazing tactic of the religious right by purging all big tent conservative Democrats out of your diverse party. Is Heath Shuler on your hit list along with Larry Kissel? I hope you don't mind me quoting you as you requested John.

I get it now....you just can't come to terms with your sexuality can you Connie? You
continue to insult homosexuality in the hopes it will suppress those desires you have inside
right?
And why do you want to know about my marriage? I would focus on your own if
I were you. I mean, after you have ruined your wife's credibility, campaign, reputation,
career, and all, she's bound to file for divorce soon. I'd start with flowers and
a movie and see how it goes.

Mary,
I don't hate her, or have personal feelings of any kind toward her. And I'm not trying to provoke a reaction. In fact, I've ignored the campaign of late, in hopes that it would just disappear. The Goebbals thing, unfortunately, is too much to ignore.
She has run a grotesque campaign, and has shown herself uniquely unqualified for a spot on the state supreme court.

Ed, you've demonstrated that you can ignore quite a bit.
And even if you could not ignore this, you could've made your point without calling the woman "batshit crazy".
Consider this. First, Rachel has been ill. Second, whatever you may think of her rhetoric & tactics, you lower youself to the same level you say you abhor when you poke your fun and provoke her husband and call her names.
Given my own experience with the fine, upstanding "honorable" members of the current NC Bar (comparisons to "the Beast" are actually not far off), I'm not so sure they couldn't use a good shaking up.
This thread has deteriorated as I predicted it would. It's a shame.

It is a shame that Connie has done what Connie does, as we all knew he would.
That's one reason I've ignored this campaign as much as I could.
This time, I felt they had crossed a line. I knew they wanted me to feel that way, and that they seek attention of any kind. With a week to go, I was willing to do it once more.
Fortunately, this will be over soon.
I crossed out the batshit crazy part, you are right, no need to go there.

Frantz happens to be perhaps the most honest and best mechanic in Cary, NC. He also has an amazingly wonderful sense of humor and it seems Connie has decided to share that with all of us. In just over two weeks, voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, November 7th for the all-important mid-term Congressional elections. The balance of power in both the House and the Senate is up for grabs, as voters determine whether the country should stay the course, or go forth in a new direction.
Here in North Carolina, there are several important local, county and statewide races voters will be asked to make choices in. This week, we'll focus on judicial candidates for the NC Supreme Court and the NC Court of Appeals.
These are non-partisan races, which means that you must vote for each judicial candidate separately from your other choices on the ballot. If you straight ticket vote (and we really hope that you do not), please make note that you still must vote for your judicial candidates separately.
On Election Day, polls open at 6:30 a.m., and close at 7:30 p.m. One Stop early voting begins today in New Hanover County, ending Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
The state's two highest courts of law are where historic decisions of jurisprudence are made. This week, we proudly recommend several candidates for seats on the judiciary who have proven to be outstanding jurists who know the law, and fairly apply it with without fear or favor.
RACHEL LEA HUNTER FOR NC SUPREME COURT
She is certainly flamboyant, most definitely controversial. She called herself "Madame Justice," and proclaims her independence from the political machine, keeping her faith in the common sense of the people.
Attorney Rachel Lea Hunter is a "take-no-prisoners" fighter who believes the criminal justice system should serve the people.
A native of Monroeville, Pa., Hunter earned her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988, graduating in the top third of her class. She served as a judicial law clerk until January 2001, when she joined a law firm in Durham, where she presently practices.
"We have a two-tiered system of justice in this country," Hunter told the NC Bar Association Convention last June. "There is one brand of justice for the rich and powerful (Dick Cheney and Patrick Kennedy are recent examples). There is another if you are poor or African American or a member of some other minority."
"A system of justice that favors the rich and powerful cannot long survive and we need to restore justice to all people so that they can once again have confidence in our courts."
Hunter is young, but she long experience in researching judicial opinions and issues, in addition to her noble commitment to making the judicial system work for all people, makes her a unique choice for the NC Supreme Court.
We wholeheartedly endorse Rachel Lea Hunter.

voted today and I voted for Goebbels. Thanks for the info, Ed.*Britt Whitmire
Clearly a poster child why the poll tax should be bought back to stop idiots like Whitmire from destroying themselves in politics and radio. Wait a minute didn't Goebbels get his start in Radio like Britt?
When you talk about the nasty mix of garbage and fecal matter that is Connie and his psychotic wife (We established a long time ago that Connie was beyond lunacy.), it is appropriate such a thread will deteriorate.*Alan Cone Bulluck
Wow Allan! You cuss just like Ed! No wonder your lunacy is not question by your self standing standards.
Frantz happens to be perhaps the most honest and best mechanic in Cary, NC. He also has an amazingly wonderful sense of humor and it seems Connie has decided to share that with all of us. That and what a crackpot of a campaign manager he is. I think Rachel would have been better off hiring a convicted felon to run her campaign *Laughing Voter aka Don Frantz himself
You must be having a discount oil change special this week Frantz. Will you discount the oil change in Justice Martin Cadillac or simply charge him like you do to all of your poor customers and voters

North Carolina progressive Democrats endorse Republican for NC Supreme Court over self proclaimed progressive Democrat Rachel Lea Hunter
In the most progressive county in the State of North Carolina, the Orange County Democratic Party endorses Justice Mark Martin for NC Supreme Court.
Chapel Hill Town Council Member, Mark Kleinschmidt, endorses Justice Mark Martin for NC Supreme Court.

Connie, this website would not be the place for me to look for clients, and I am very much in business.
As far as Corleone's go, I'd rather be Sonny than Fredo.
Ed, you should have left the "batshit crazy" part in.
Posted by: The CA | Oct 30, 2006 at 09:02 PM
Does anyone think he sees the irony in touting an endorsement from one of NC's African-American newspapers and then calling, even jokingly, for reinstitution of the poll tax?

I am sure you are Sam. But you must be bumdle of energy during the day to stay here and than rush to court and meet clients who have no idea you hang on a blogging site giving some jouralist hell about his politics.

Either way Sam, you still end up dead like they did in the flick. Not really an example of finding role models in this day and time of republican chaos.
Ed, you should have left the "batshit crazy" part in.* Sam
"Rachel Lea Hunter comes across as batshit crazy" Ed
He sure did! He even drew a line though it to prove he really didn't mean it. I guess Ed is in to psychic mind reading as we all won't pretend to see it.

Yeah! Sorted like calling Vernon a Uncle Tom and staying on the GOP plantation. John! You have no idea of the Afica-America culture, no matter how much you tout your white frat boy liberal democrat values.
I think Ed should apologize....right after Connie does...(cheap skate demon caster)* Me
Having Ed apologize for drawing a line though his statement is like Hilter saying the Polish Army started the War first. Which proves Ed bought into the Goebbles GOP myth.
You are right Me! I apologize for making that statement for calling Ed a Cheapskate. As to the demon part. That is between him and the Wake Forest football team and it's host of Baptist preachers who want to make him an example about his Carolina Blue Demon be cast into the Red Zone of Republican politics.

A lot of well informed comments from RLH crowd ( of one ).Not ! Problem is a large majority of the voters wou go into the booth and get down to the end of the ballot don't have any freaking idea about the opposing judicial candidates in these races,
thanks to our Democrat controlled General Assembly who made them non-partisan because Republicans were wining too many . Thus RLH may be unqualified and batshit crazy but she has got an even chance of being elected.
At least that's the way I see the odds.

Why did she stop at comparing him to Goebbels? If you are going to link a guy to a Nazi, you might as well go all out and compare him to Hitler.
I agree with Ed, this has got to be some of the craziest bat**** we have ever seen. Makes the attack ads we have created look like Christmas Cards.

In today's Rachel Hunter Press release. Congrats Ed. Once again you make it in to her Press Release.
GOP MARTIN SUPPORTER JOURNALIST
CALLS RACHEL BATSHIT CRAZY?
Oct 30, 2006
This time, as a Democrat (albeit one disowned by party leadership), Rachel Lea Hunter comes across as BATSHIT CRAZY and completely unsuited for a seat on the state's high court.* Ed Cone.
*Awarding winning Liberal Journalist Of The Greensboro News and Record.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alas, given the rhetoric and imagery of other campaigns in recent weeks, invoking comparisons to the Nazis as the campaign season draws to a close seems almost tame and even predictable.
It would be nice if he would not take the bait this time . . . and let this particular provovation swing in the wind for what it is."

Anyone notice that Connie claims the Wake Dems are hitting him up for another $4 thousand? Which begs the question: Why did they keep the first $4 thousand when they know this candidate is "batshit crazy"?
One would think that after the racist rhetoric, the freak show campaign, and the reference to Jerry Meek (chair of the NC Democratic Party) being Adolph Hitler they'd get rid of her cash just on the principle of the matter.
One would think, but one would be wrong.
Posted by: ConnieFreakShow | Oct 31, 2006 at 05:16 PM
It is sad that the candidate in question has basically said that anyone who critizes her is evil and calls them names only suited for the worst of villains. In my opinion, that is reason enough for her to be dismissed as a candidate, as one wonders how she would get along with other NC Supreme Court justices on a daily basis. Perhaps her intentions are not necessarily bad as she suffers from medical problems, but even her most ardent supporters surely cannot condone the type of behavior seen in her campaign.

This is Don Frantz. Thank You to those who informed me of this discussion.
What Connie posted above was an email conversation we had a few days back. I have asked to be removed from their email list numerous times - since I never asked to be on it in the first place - but they have refused to remove me, and continue to offend me with their vile remarks. Since turn about is fair play, I'll reply to an email ocassionally. What you see above is typical of the responses I get from Connie. He has called me pretty much every name in the book, and some I've never even heard of. I guess the name calling helps him deal with his many shotcomings? I don't know.
I do know he's single handidly responsible for ruining his wifes name, credibility, career, campaign, and reputation though. They seem to believe that any publicity is good publicity. In regards to Judicial elections however, PT Barnum was wrong.
I apologize those of you who wasted precious minutes of your lives by reading the above. I did not ask to be brought into this discussion and until now I have not participated. Although I am sure conspiracy Connie will argue otherwise.

Right Bubba! Do you really believe that reality is your political strong point on the net like your leader George Bush or maybe the therapy term " denial" is another weak point in the playbook of republican politics. I like you Bubba, but your obession of Ed is killing you and of course your world famous internet death threat toward me was a joke. Right?

Huh Donald! It appears that the number of 10 e-mails in less than 24 hours is not a issue with your obession of the RLH campaign along with your buddy Barbara. Have you consider more intense therapy as a political expert in local politics and world affairs as a career move in Republican Cary politics?
By the way! Is there any reason why you used the persona the CIA fixer on the net to stalk me?
Now get out there and change the oil in Justice Martin Republican Cadillac before the Oil runs out in Iraq and our American dead bodies.

Okay, in celebration of Rachel Crackpot's last run for public office I am going to call for a celebration, election night at Chili's in Cary starting at 7:00pm. Let's have some drinks and laugh at the demise of the the Crackpot. They've got TV's in the bar area, it'll be perfect. Rachel Crackpot is going to loose and loose badly on election day.* John Barbara prancing around on his international award winning Blog
Hi John! We know you are glue to this thread with your obession internet addiction issue about the RLH campaign. I will be dropping by your pre-victory party to collect your wager with my new instant cam from CVS to catch another facial expression of a loser. Is there any reason why you spell loose instead of lose or have start drinking cheap beer?
ps.... It might take a day for you to roll down this thread, but a addicted fool like you will do anything for attention.
