Jim Melvin calls to say that the City of Greensboro (actually, its insurer) paid the judgment for cops and Klansmen found liable for the death of Michael Nathan in the 1985 civil trial, but that the City itself was not found liable. I've corrected it in my column.

At whatever level it is good to have Jim Melvin involved in this community discussion. Ed, I think your ongoing efforts have helped us see this process more clearly. Thanks!

We had a long conversation about the TRC, and about the revival of downtown Greensboro. I don't agree with all of his POV on 1979, but I do think his work on behalf of this city in recent years has been heroic.
